Born and raised in São Paulo, Brazil, André began his musical path at the age of thirteen, teaching himself guitar and electric bass while playing in local rock and pop bands.

In the early 1990s, music education in Brazil focused almost exclusively on classical training. Through German-Brazilian friends who had moved to Germany, André learned about the possibility of studying jazz and pop at a German music academy — a discovery that soon led him to Cologne.

He completed his studies in Jazz/Electric Bass and Music Education at the renowned Hochschule für Musik in Cologne in 2002. Parallel to his studies, he began playing double bass, initially supported by private instruction. In 2010, he completed his degree with top marks under John Goldsby at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen. As both an electric and double bassist, André has performed on over 50 album productions.

Highly active in the jazz, Latin, and world music scenes, he has performed or recorded with artists such as Kamal Ben Hicham, Alex Gunia, Pablo Paredes, Terence N’Gassa, Juliana da Silva, Tony Lakatos, Paulo Morello and Kim Barth, Matthias Schriefl, Frank Sackenheim, Reiner Witzel, Claus Osterloh, and from Brazil Simoninha, Max de Castro, Carlos Malta, and Arthur Maia.
